I am forwarding some memories of my playing days with the Beavertown Tigers. It is hard to believe that it has been over 50 years since I played with the Tigers.
You present an interesting origin for Alvin's nickname. Some had presumed it was given to him because of his skills at first base, just as they presumed "Roundy" got his by his pitching skills. Stan said his father, William, was also a catcher for Beavertown. He may have died fairly young as a result of being hit by a pitched ball OR the after effects of the flu, OR BOTH. "Towie" played center field when with the Cardinals organization. 7-6-04
